OWNER AND MANAGER, Joyce Watson
Joyce’s earliest wine drinking days in New Jersey started with consuming wines in bottles that made decorative candle holders! Her passion for wine has remained constant throughout the decades and it has been a hobby and vacation destination.
Joyce has raised a family, obtained an advanced degree in marketing, had a successful 25+ year corporate career in communications, media relations and public relations, but is finally pursing her dream of owning a wine store and sharing her passion with others. In fact one of the main reasons she moved to Charlottesville was because of the wine industry.
Wine Made Simple opened in 2011. The shop focuses on wine under $20, classes and events and on customer service. You will feel welcome no matter what your taste or budget.
Originally from Roanoke, Matt Brown graduated from the University of Virginia in 2010 with a degree in Foreign Affairs. In addition to working at Wine Made Simple, Matt also works at King Family Vineyards in Crozet. At the vineyard, he enjoys staffing the tasting room year-round, conducting private tastings and tours of the winery, as well as getting his hands dirty in the vineyard during harvest time.
Every Monday, Matt is behind the counter at Wine Made Simple, researching new wines for the shop or helping customers find the perfect bottle of wine. He also leads the occasional "Wine 101" class for beginners. Matt is using his experience in the wine industry to help him reach his goal of obtaining a Master's Degree in wine business. His dream is to one day own his own vineyard here in Virginia. In his off time, Matt can be found enjoying a glass of wine with his friends from the vineyard, or out enjoying some sunshine with a round of golf.
James Frazer grew up in Nelson County, Virginia, and graduated Nelson County High School in 2000. He spent his childhood and teen years playing basketball, which led to helping coach numerous area high school teams in his early 20s. He then started pursuing his interests in art and music. His choice of medium is a combination of pastels, pens, and colored pencils. Musically he plays guitar and prefers rock. In his spare time he enjoys rock collecting and hiking in the Appalachian Mountains.
His experience includes everything from camp counselor to animal entertainer/caretaker. In 2009 he joined Foods of All Nations where he apprenticed under Paul Caulkins in the wine department. Some of his favorite wines include French reds from the Rhone, Bordeaux, Burgundy, and Oregon Pinot Noir.
